Mortensen, Jr. As much as I’ve been writing well-nigh music stuff, I haven’t been doing much, if any, photography whispered from lamina phone snaps at work. Last night, I went to see Several Species, a Pink Floyd tribute wreath based here in the Baltimore area. As always, the put on a unconfined show — better, in many ways, than an very Pink Floyd concert. Like many venues, MECU usually has restrictions on what kind of cameras that the unstipulated public can bring in. The unstipulated rule of thumb is that the lens can’t proffer increasingly than 3 inches. So, I took withal my Fujifilm X10 to use from my 12th row part-way seat. The X10 is quite a few years old now, and it’s 12MP, 2/3 inch sensor, while excellent, is challenged in unrepealable situations, like concerts. Still, I’m pretty happy with the images, despite the fact that some are pretty noisy, and that I missed/lost a few shots due to the slow wheels focus. What I’d really like is for Fujifilm to “grow up” the X10/X20/X30 series into a camera with a larger sensor — either 1” or APS-C — with an equivalent lens, for instance, an 18.5-75mm f/2.8-4.8 zoom for an APS-C sensor. Of course, that may make for a lens that extends greater than 3 inches… In galleries, photography, music Tags Several Species, concert, X10, Fujifilm X10, Fujifilm Comment Green House on Race Street February 10, 2015 Geren W. Mortensen, Jr. Just a rework of an image from a couple weeks back. I was bored while watching NCIS:New Orleans, and started fooling virtually in Aviary on my iPad Air 2. Aviary is an okay freebie app.Tenancyis limited, and to get an real power out of it, you need to buy spare filters through the in-app purchase system. For the most part, I got what I wanted, except a little texture, which I widow with Snapseed -- my go-to image editor on the iPads. In galleries Tags aviary, Eastern Shore, Fujifilm X10, Snapseed, X10 Comment Monochrome on the Shore January 24, 2015 Geren W. Mortensen, Jr. We crush wideness Maryland's Eastern Shore this morning. The sky was unrewarding and overcast and sullen, spitting rain and cold. In short, it wasn't a day for taking pretty pictures. Still, we finally stopped and detoured a little and made the weightier of it. I'm wishing now I'd made a few increasingly detours. All of today's images were captured with the Fujifilm X10, and edited with either Photos or Snapseed on my iPhone 5. In galleries Tags Eastern Shore, Fuji, Fujifilm X10, iPhone 5, Maryland, Snapseed, X10 Comment Portable Power Trio ... Plus One October 17, 2014 Geren W. Mortensen, Jr. A good while back, I made a post well-nigh my "Fit Kit." It referred to an ultra-portable, photos-on-the-go-fits-in-a-tiny-bag-goes-anywhere photo kit capable of spanking-new quality capture and image editing. The kit initially consisted of my Fujifilm X10 camera, Fujifilm X-20 flash, iPhone 5, and an Eye-Fi X2 Pro SDHC/WiFi card. Since I wrote well-nigh the original kit, a couple of things have changed. One, I purchased an iPad Mini, which replaces the iPhone 5 for image editing on-the-go. And two, Apple have updated iOS a couple of times, and have profoundly improved synchronization wideness devices through their new-ish implementation of iCloud and Photostream. With iOS 8, the Photos app has been given powerful image editing tools that plane indulge fairly sophisticated raw conversion with supported cameras. These upgrades have made it easier than overly to shoot, edit, and upload from anywhere at scrutinizingly any time. For instance, I made the image at left this morning in my kitchen. In only a couple of minutes -- total time -- I shot the image with the X10. By the time I set the camera lanugo on the table, the image was ready and waiting for editing on the iPad Mini. I made towardly adjustments in the iOS 8 Photos app, and clicked done. By the time I turned the camera off and turned to my palmtop to write this post (I'm still looking for the ultimate in blog posting apps for iOS), the image was in my Photostream, ready to insert into the post, or upload to my favorite social media or photo sharing sites. If I weren't planning on using the image for a blog post, and just wanted to add it to my Flickr stream, I could have washed-up that directly from Photos. I see this kind of unfluctuating workflow as the future of photography.Increasinglyand more, camera manufactures are including WiFi functionality built right into cameras at all levels, and the liaison and tenancy apps are rhadamanthine incredibly sophisticated. This allows photographers to work in a "wireless tethered" mode that facilitates shooting and scrutinizingly immediately viewing images on a large screen without stuff encumbered by a USB cable. While none of my current cameras have WiFi built in, the Eye-Fi X2 (or Eye-Fi Mobi) can add minimal wireless tethering to scrutinizingly any camera, and they work well with all of the non-WiFi Fujis. They can't add remote tenancy or real-time viewing, but they do indulge fairly efficient transfer of images without the need of a time-consuming "import" step. The Eye-Fi cards moreover play well with Lightroom on a desktop or laptop. I've had less success with Lightroom Mobile. While Adobe has made a couple of updates to the app, it remains cumbersome and slow. While I was initially excited well-nigh the future prospects of the app, I'm not sure I see a future for Adobe's mobile apps in my workflow. Tools like the new Photos, Snapseed, Perfectly Clear, and a couple of others increasingly than meet my mobile editing needs, and I was expressly excited to learn that Pixelmator will be coming to the iPad soon. Pixelmator was highlighted at Apple's big event yesterday, and at $4.99, it should be a steal. Here's Pixelmator's sneak peek video: As you might be worldly-wise to tell, I'm really excited well-nigh the future of iOS devices for working mobile for both photography and music, and plane for everyday computing. Mortensen, Jr. Last night was Java Hafla at Birdies, and as usual, I took some pictures. The "unaffected" ones are up on Facebook already, but I decided to have some fun and do some grungified versions using OnOne's Perfect Effects 8.5. (Click a thumbnail to view full size image) (Click a thumbnail to view full size image)All images were made with the Fujifilm X10 camera with the EF-20 wink attached, and were pre-processed in Lightroom 5.4. Mortensen, Jr. I took the lead picture this afternoon while on my way home from Lewes, Delaware, where I attended an spanking-new event hosted by the Coastal Camera Club featuring Lewis Kemper. Within flipside couple of minutes, I was driving through blinding rain. Lewis presented two spanking-new talks on making photographs, which included some unconfined vital photography tips, tips on getting the weightier out of your camera, and moreover on RAW and HDR processing. I took two full pages of notes, something which I rarely do at events like these. I was particularly impressed with his tideway to HDR processing. His work uses HDR to enhance realism ... to make the printed image squint like what he saw, not an over-cooked cartoon. He moreover showed a really interesting technique for RAW processing that can make getting a unconfined looking conversion quick and easy. The gist of the technique is that you do the conversion in B&W mode. Briefly, you unshut the RAW file in Lightroom, printing the V key in the Develop module to toggle into black-and-white, retread the image for the weightier result, and then use the V key to toggle when to color. The premise is that a good woebegone and white will make a good color. I can't wait to try it out of some of my own images. Mortensen, Jr. I was sitting at the kitchen table without breakfast this morning and glanced out the kitchen window. The sun was stoping through the melting ice on the tree in our when yard, and I had to make some pictures. As usual, I reached for the Fujifilm X10 -- there was no thought of using the Sony -- and headed out onto the when deck. Our when deck is completely screened in, so I was forced to shoot through the screens, creating a little bit of a "star filter" effect in some of the images.
